Radio Communications

Although monitoring the sky for radio signals has long been a search strategy for SETI, radio is also a possible candidate for communication between civilizations, their settlements and their probes or spacecraft. Radio is a less information dense medium for data than lasers or x-rays, and may therefore only be advantageous as a communications technology for unknown recipients.

Detectability

  • Detecting radio signals over large distances represents a challenge due to the scattering effect of longer wavelengths and the background noise of other naturally occurring radio emmissions.
