Spacecraft

Interstellar spacecraft may be employed for a variety of purposes, including the transportation of passengers to distant colonies, and thus may be easier to detect than automated probes because of the constraints of size, habitability or speed. There are myriad arguments against the viability of interstellar migration, primarily due to the distances involved, but there are also conceivable "doomsday" scenarios where civilizations may have no other choice but to embark on such journeys.

Detectability

  • Most strategies for detecting spacecraft in transit rely on observing active propulsion, such as the effluvia of an antimatter engine.
